KUALA LUMPUR:"If you can go to the shops, supermarkets, queuing at restaurants every day, why can’t queue up for one day to vote with strict SOP?"

In posing that question, UMNO Secretary General, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, continues to defend UMNO's motion for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held in the near future.

In a post on his Twitter account, Ahmad who is also secretary-general of Barisan Nasional (BN) stressed that the election campaign is not a problem because it can be conducted online.

"I mentioned the GE (to be held) if the flood is over and the vaccination (against COVID-19) is started.

"I also mentioned that the Election Commission (EC) has stated that GE is possible with a strict SOP," he said.

Ahmad had previously issued a statement that the highly educated, including a PhD holder, would understand the need to hold a general election as soon as possible.

He said this after watching a news report showing the reaction of a coconut grater who felt that the GE should not be held at this time because the transmission of COVID-19 is still happening.
