Incumbent Teratai state assemblyman Jenice Lee was expelled from DAP for failing to publicly withdraw from contesting as an independent candidate within the 24-hour grace period given her yesterday.

DAP national chairman Karpal Singh said today incumbent Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him was also slated for expulsion but the decision was changed at the last minute after Sim withdrew as an independent candidate for the Kota Laksamana state seat.

Sim was reported to have said that he would continue to contest the Kota Melaka parliamentary seat on a DAP ticket.

On the non-recognition of the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC), Karpal Singh said the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had no right to issue a notice saying that the party was not recognised until the investigation was completed.

It was reported that the DAP's election officer, Pooi Weng Keong, and election strategist Ong Kian Ming were supposed to attend an ROS inquiry on April 18 but it was postponed to May 9.

"I call upon individuals not to raise legal questions with us. There are many lawyers in DAP and we know what we are doing," Karpal Singh said.
