The UMNO Welfare Bureau is taking proactive measures to ease the burden of parents with school-going children after floods hit the state over the weekend.

UMNO Welfare Bureau chairman Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the party had agreed to channel contributions in the form of school uniform, bag, shoes and others to the affected people soon.

He said the contribution for school supplies worth RM100 each will be in the form of coupons.

"We will be working with the Terengganu UMNO Liaison Committee chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman to coordinate and determine the actual number of students affected.

"We will be bringing a uniform supplier to get the right size of pupils so as not to trouble parents with further alteration," he told reporters after a meeting with Ahmad Razif here yesterday.

Shamsul Anuar said so far UMNO would only be providing school items as the state government and other government agencies would be coming up with other assistances for flood victims.

He said the effort by UMNO Welfare Bureau would be extended to Kelantan with the assistance of the state UMNO liaison committee.
