Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob on Friday described Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud as a great leader who had contributed so much to the state.

Adnan said Abdul Taib, in his 33 years of leadership, had managed to unite the multi-ethnic and multi-religious people of Sarawak to live in peace and harmony without any political or religious incident.

"For me, he is a great leader who has contributed so much to Sarawak and has managed to unite the multi-ethnic people to work together to develop the state.

"I wish him well and that he will continue to succeed in whatever field he chooses to venture into after this...maybe he will be appointed to hold another important office because he is great," Adnan said in response to Abdul Taib's resignation.

Adnan was met after launching the rebranding of Kuantan Vistana Hotel here on Friday, which was also attended by Pahang State Development Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Lias Mohd Noor and YTL Hotel executive director Datuk Mark Yeoh Seok Kah.

Last Wednesday, Abdul Taib, 78, announced his resignation as Sarawak Chief Minister effective February 28 and named Special Functions Minister at the Chief Minister’s Office and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Tan Sri Adenan Satem as his successor.
