The date for sighting of the Syawal new moon to determine Aidilfitri has been set for July 4 (Monday evening) or 29 Ramadan 1437 Hijrah.

A statement from the Office of Keeper of the Rulers' Seal today, said Conference of Rulers has agreed that the date of Aidilfitri be based on sighting and astronomical calculations.

"The Keeper of the Rulers' Seal will declare the date for Aidilfitri on the same night through radio and television," said the statement.

The committees entrusted with sighting the Syawal new moon will do so at 29 locations nationwide.

In Selangor, the sighting will be at Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor; Bukit Jugra in Banting, Kuala Langat, and Balai Cerap Selangor in Sabak Bernam.

In Terengganu, it will be done at Bukit Besar in Kuala Terengganu; Bukit Geliga in Kemaman; Pulau Perhentian in Besut, and Balai Cerap KUSZA in Mukim Merang, Setiu.

In Kelantan, it will be at Bukit Peraksi in Pasir Puteh; Bukit Kampung Tembeling in Mukim Manjur of Daerah Olak Jeram in Kuala Krai, and Menara Bangunan SEDC in Jalan Tengku Putera Semerak, Kota Bharu.

In Kedah, the locations are Kampung Pulau Sayak in Kuala Muda; Pemandangan Indah in Pulau Langkawi, and
Menara Alor Setar in Alor Setar.

In Pahang, the sighting will be at Bukit Tanjong Batu in Nenasi; Gunung Berincang in Cameron Highlands, and Bukit Pelindong in Kuantan.

Locations in the federal territories are Menara Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya International Convention Centre and Level 13 of Menara Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Kampus Antarabangsa Labuan.

Sighting at other locations in the peninsula will be at Pontian Kecil (Johor), Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi in Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara (Malacca), Telok Kemang in Port Dickson (Negeri Sembilan), Pantai Pasir Panjang in Mukim Pengkalan Baru, Manjong (Perak), Pusat Falak Sheikh in Pantai Acheh (Penang), and Kuala Sungai Baru in Simpang Empat (Perlis).

In Sarawak, the sighting of the Syawal new moon will be at Tanjong Lubang in Miri; Teluk Bandung in Kuching, and Tanjung Batu in Kuching.

In Sabah, the sighting will be done at Balai Cerap Al-Biruni in Tanjung Dumpil, Putatan.
