Police have formed a special team to track down the criminals involved in a robbery who deliberately caused the death of a policeman from the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) at 10th Mile, Parit Buntar-Alor Pongsu road in Perak on Monday.

"The special team will take over the investigation and detain the suspects considered to be violent and aggressive.

"We are still gathering information and intelligence to identify the suspects involved," Perak police chief, Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani told reporters at the Tactical Police Headquarters for the Teluk Intan parliamentary
seat by-election Friday.

In the 1.15pm incident, Lance Corporal Mohd Azuan Abdullah, 25, a member of the Kerian district police headquarters' Motorcycle Patrol Unit, died at the scene when the motorcycle he was on was rammed by the robbers's car, while his colleague was seriously injured.

Earlier, the criminals were believed to have robbed a cigarette van at the Bagan Serai-Alor Pongsu road.

Police have classified the case as murder.
