Police foiled an attempt to steal swiftlet nests with the arrest of two men aged 21 and 25, in a building in Selama town, near here yesterday.

Selama district police chief DSP Mohd Sabri Saad said following a public tip-off, a police team raided the two-storey building and detained the suspects at 2.30 am.

“Police also seized two plastic bags containing bird nests, a knife, two scrappers, a backpack and a nylon rope,” he said.

Mohd Sabri said the suspects were believed to have entered the premises through the roof and both were hiding in the ceiling before being caught by the police.

He said checks found both suspects have previous drug-related and criminal records.

“The duo are on four-day remand until Monday and the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for break-in,” he added.
