TANGKAK: The Gambir State Assembly (DUN) seat held by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been recaptured by Barisan Nasional (BN).

BN candidate, Sahrihan Jani, garnered 7,960 votes to defeat PN’s Mohd Solihan Badri (4,814), PKR candidate Naim Jusri (4,509) and Pejuang candidate Suraya Sulaiman (220) with a majority of 3,146 votes.

The victory saw one of the state seats touted as Muhyiddin's stronghold after winning the seat in the 14th General Election (GE) with a majority of 3,088 changing hands again.

For the record, the Gambir state constituency under the Ledang Parliament, which is a traditional MIC seat, was controlled by Datuk M. Asojan for four terms since GE10 before losing to Muhyiddin in a three-cornered contest in the last GE.

Meanwhile, the Bukit Pasir state seat under the Pagoh Parliament was also won by BN via its candidate Ir. Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Saleh with a majority of 198 votes after facing a six -cornered contest.

Mohamad Fazli, who is a newcomer, managed to get 6,048 votes defeating PN’s Iqbal Razak (5,850), Pakatan Harapan (PH) (4,676), Pejuang’s Mohd Akhiri Mahmood (196) and two Independent candidates Najib Lep (1,860) and Johar Haji Siraj (207).
