The body of Malaysian student Nor Atikah Alias who perished in a fire at a hostel in Russia on April 22, has arrived in the country.

The remains transported by Emirates Airlines arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 9.45pm on Saturday night and were received by relatives and friends.

Accompanying Nor Atikah's remains from Moscow were her parents, Alias Yaacob and Najihah Mat Jusoh, and her fiance, Wan Mohd Ikwan.

The van carrying the body left the KLIA cargo complex at 10.45pm for Kampung Bukit, Jeram Linang, Pasir Putih, Kelantan, escorted by three vehicles carrying family members.

Nor Atikah's father said she would be buried at Kampung Bukit at 10am Sunday.

Alias when met, expressed the family's gratitude to Wisma Putra, Yayasan Terengganu, the Royal Malaysian Police, and particularly individuals involved in helping to bring home his daughter's remains.

Nor Artikah, 25, a final year medical student at the Russian National Research Medical University suffered 30 per cent burns and succumbed to face, hand and leg injuries at the Skifosovsky Hospital intensive care unit.

The expenses involved in transporting Nor Atikah's remains were borne by the state government as she was a Yayasan Terengganu-sponsored student.
