KUALA LUMPUR: Daily new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia breached the 15,000 mark today when 15,573 cases were reported, a jump of more than 2,000 infections compared to the 13,034 cases recorded yesterday.

It is the highest number recorded since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a Twitter post, said Selangor remained the state with the highest number of new infections, recording 7,672 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 2,063.

"There were 937 new cases in Kedah, followed by Johor (722), Negeri Sembilan (682), Penang (530), Sabah (516) and Sarawak (461)," he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said Pahang reported 457 new cases, Melaka (452), Perak (415), Kelantan (372) Terengganu (229), Putrajaya (41), Labuan (21) and Perlis, one case.
