The MyDistress system, which sends an emergency signal with a tap of an icon on smartphones, will be extended nationwide, should studies in Selangor indicate it helped reduce crime, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Lee Chee Leong.

He said, through MyDistress, signals would be sent directly to the operations room located at the Selangor police headquarters.

The system was also equipped with a global positioning system to help the police find the location of individuals sending the signal, he said.

Lee was replying to a question from Teng Boon Soon (BN-Tebrau) at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

He said, although crime statistics indicated a drop, the government was constantly improving its initiatives to further reduce the crime rate.
