The Health Ministry will provide additional five haemodialysis machines for kidney patients at the Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the existing 25 haemodialysis machines at the hospital was not enough to cope with the number of patients seeking treatment there.

"Last year, the ministry bought 635 units of haemodialysis machines, costing RM23 million, for distribution to government hospitals nationwide," he told reporters after visiting victims of a fire in Kampung Nelayan, Teluk Kumbar here today.

Also present were UMNO Welfare bureau chairman Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who handed over RM10,000, which is a personal contribution from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, to the family affected by the fire.

In a report which claimed the Oncology and Nephrology Ward at the Penang Hospital was congested, Dr Hilmi said the ministry was looking into the problem.

"Actually, it is not only Penang Hospital having the problem, likewise a few other government hospitals, but the problem cannot be solved immediately," he added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Azeez said the UMNO Welfare Bureau, with the cooperation of the Balik Pulau UMNO, would help to build houses for the fire victims.

The fire, which broke out at 2.15 am incident yesterday, killed Nazri Zainal Abidin, 29, and his three-month-old daughter, Damia Auliah Salsabila.
