Matthias Chang, the lawyer representing former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan, was arrested today under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA).

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the matter.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Mohmad Salleh said Chang was arrested this afternoon at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, when he went there to visit Khairuddin.

"He is being detained under Sections 124K and 124L of the Penal Code which refers to sabotage and attempts to sabotage the country respectively," he said when contacted by Bernama.

On Sept 28, Chang was called to record a statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters over a case against the former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief.

Khairuddin was previously remanded for six days beginning Sept 19 under Section 124C of the Penal Code on charges of undertaking activities that were detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

On Sept 23, Khairuddin was re-arrested at the Jalan Duta Court Complex under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) on charges of attempting to sabotage the country.
