The divorce hearing for PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar is set for March 11.

Nurul Izzah, 33, filed the petition under the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984 against her husband 35-year-old Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar in December.

According to a report by The Star, counsel Normawaddah Ramli who acted for Nurul Izzah said that they are in the midst of discussing the matter with hopes of resolving it amicably.

However, mutual divorce proceedings are still ongoing under Section 47 of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984.

The date was fixed by Syariah judge Ab Malek Awang after meeting lawyers in chamber at the Lower Syariah Court in Jalan Sri Hartamas Tuesday. The date also coincided with the nomination day for the Kajang by-election in which Nurul Izzah's father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is contesting.

The case was first mentioned before Syariah Judge Ab Malek Awang on January 21.

She had earlier denied that she was seeking to annul her marriage.

To a question from a Twitter follower, Nurul Izzah had also replied that she was not seeking a divorce under the fasakh principle.

Nurul Izzah and Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar were married on May 9, 2003.
