The Deputy Secretary-General (International and Management) of the Youth and Sports Ministry, Datuk Jamil Salleh, has been promoted as the Secretary-General of the ministry effective Wednesday.

Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said with the experience that Jamil possessed, he believed the latter could discharge the responsibility placed on him with full integrity and professionalism.

"I believe the knowledge, experience and credibility that Datuk Jamil has will enable him to helm the Youth and Sports Ministry and discharge his responsibilities with full integrity and professionalism in the efforts to fulfil the government's aspiration towards creating youths who are patriotic, united, disciplined and practicing the sports culture for the sake of national solidarity and development," he said in a statement, here today.

Jamil, 54, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Malaya and joined the Civil Service as a Youth and Sports Officer on June 22, 1983 before being appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Service officer on Jan 13, 1986.

Throughout his career, he had gained experience in the fields of planning, financial management and administration, human resource and purchasing.

Jamil is also Chairman of the Malaysian Stadium Corporation and Chairman of the National Athletes Welfare Foundation.
