An Indonesian maid was sentenced to 12 months jail by the Magistrates Court here today, after she pleaded guilty to killing a dog belonging to her employer's niece, two weeks ago.

Magistrate Nur Azura Murah ordered Heltija Bulu, 26, to serve the sentence from the date of her arrest on Jan 10.

Heltija was charged with killing a Yorkshire Terrier dog owned by Kelly Teh, 18, at a house in Jalan Sri Hartamas 4, Taman Sri Hartamas, near here on Jan 10.

According to the facts of the case the maid had beaten the dog and chucked it into the bathroom. An Ipoh Veterinary Research Institute post mortem showed that the dog died from being beaten with a blunt object.

The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 429 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of five years prison, fine or both.

Prosecution officer chief Insp Muhamad Sapri Yaakub prosecuted.
