A man was killed while his wife was seriously injured when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by another motorcyclist in Jalan Kampung Melapi Telupid, yesterday.

Beluran police chief Supt Sivanathan Velautham said the man who died at the scene due to severe head injuries was 47 years-old while his wife, 43, was admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for treatment.

He said in the 5pm incident, the couple were on their way to a shop not far from the village when another motorcyclist aged 26, who was riding from the opposite direction collided into their motorcycle.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the man may have been under the influence of alcohol," he said in a statement today.

He said the remains of the victim was sent to the Beluran Hospital for post-mortem.

Sivanathan said blood samples were taken from the 26-year-old. - BERNAMA
