The health ministry has recorded statements from two dentists who had treated the late son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

On June 1, Datuk Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi, 44, died after undergoing treatment at a dental clinic in Bangsar.

Health Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Hilmi Yahaya said the statements were aimed at facilitating joint investigations into the death by the ministry and the police.

"As for the ministry, we will investigate it (the case) under the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services (act 568) Regulation 2006," he told reporters after visiting Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah at the Penang Hospital's intensive care unit.

However, he declined to elaborate on the ministry's initial findings.

Syed Alman Zain, who was the husband of Ahmad Zahid’s eldest daughter, Datuk Nurulhidayah, 37, had gone to the clinic about 6pm, together with a friend, before he was reported to have fallen unconscious after treatment.

According to a family member, he was rushed to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre where he was confirmed dead.
