The driver of a lorry which bulldozed 11 vehicles in an accident at the Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari traffic junction here, Monday, was detained three hours after the incident.

Shah Alam Police chief ACP Shafien Mamat said the 54-year-old man was detained by police after he returned to the location of the mishap.

"The lorry driver was detained after he returned to the location of the incident three hours later after disappearing from the scene. Investigations showed the man had previous summons for flouting red light and improperly loading cargo," he said in a statement Tuesday.

He said police had received 13 reports from owners of vehicles which were involved in the mishap.

Shafien said the 10-tonne lorry had also been sent to Puspakom to confirm if it had faulty brakes as claimed by the driver.

In the incident at 1pm Monday, the sand-laden lorry went out of control before hitting 11 vehicles and also caused an oncoming trailer and a car to veer off the road in their attempt to avoid a collision.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, police detained a 19-year-old youth for robbing a husband-and-wife couple and making off with a Perodua Axia car in an incident on Saturday.

Shafien said the car, which was rented by the couple in their 30s, was stolen by the suspect and his friend, when it was parked by the road side at Dataran Shah Alam here, at 6.20am.

He said police found the car at the Putra Perdana area in Puchong an hour later.

"The suspect will be remanded until Thursday for investigations under Section 395 of the Penal Code and efforts to track down his accomplice is going on," he said.
