KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 7,654 COVID-19 cases were recorded today, a sharp increase from yesterday's 6,387, bringing the cumulative number of cases in the country so far to 792,693.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his Twitter post said that Selangor still recorded the most number of new daily cases with 3,260, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,550); Negeri Sembilan (698); Kedah (337); Johor (313); Sarawak (286); Melaka (230); and Sabah (225).

Meanwhile, Penang recorded 185 cases, Pahang (180); Kelantan (118); Perak (94); Labuan (82); Terengganu (61); Putrajaya (33); and Perlis (two).

Dr Noor Hisham in his statement said from the total new cases reported, 7,643 were local infections involving 5,486 Malaysians and 2,157 foreigners while 11 import cases involved 5 locals and six foreigners.

The total recovery cases was 4,797, taking the overall figure of individuals who recovered from COV1D-19 to 714,815 or 90.2 per cent.

Dr Noor Hisham said there are now 72,201 active cases while the number of patients being treated in intensive care units is 943 with 450 of them requiring breathing assistance.

In the past 24 hours, another 103 people succumbed to the disease involving nine foreigners with Malaysians making the remaining fatalities, and all victims were aged between 21 and 100 with the majority of them having chronic diseases, said Dr Noor Hisham.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) also detected another 21 new clusters involving 11 workplace clusters, nine community clusters and one detention centre cluster which is the Pagar Langat cluster in Kuala Langat, Selangor.

The workplace clusters in the federal capital involved the construction site of Damanlela 2, Kepong cluster, Bukit Kiara cluster and Pasar Razak Mansion cluster, while in Negeri Sembilan, it was the Lorong Senawang Empat industry cluster in Seremban.

The other workplace clusters are Perai Lima industry cluster (Perak, Penang and Kedah), Jalan Perusahaan Prai cluster, Penang; Agora Borneo cluster, Sabah, Batu Tiga Bakri cluster, Johor, Baldwin Tiga cluster, Perak, Jalan KK 6/2 cluster in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan and Jalan Cempaka cluster in Ampang, Selangor.

The community clusters involved Panjang Sari cluster and Jalan Kolam Ikan cluster in Kluang, Johor, Jalan Sagang cluster and Sungai Sengkabang cluster in Sarawak, Parit Sebelas cluster in Selangor, Pondok Tanjung cluster in Perak, Kampung Gong cluster Kulim Tengah in Kelantan and Terengganu, Kampung Kerpal cluster in Pahang as well as Kampung Perwira cluster in Kelantan.

In this regard, Dr Noor Hisham said as at yesterday, the infectivity rate (Rt) of Malaysia was 1.07 with Pahang recording the highest at 1.24 .

"The other states with Rt higher than 1.0 are Putrajaya (1.17), Kuala Lumpur (1.10), Selangor (1.09), Melaka (1.08), Kedah (1.06), Penang (1.05), and Sabah (1.04)," he said.
