KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's daily COVID-19 cases rose to 8,209 within the last 24 hours.

A total of 65 cases from today's log were imported while the remainder of 8,145 were local transmissions.

With these new additions, total cases linked to the coronavirus surged further to 595,374.

Active cases with COVID-19 infection accumulates to 83,331. 

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a tweet posted that Selangor reported a whopping 3,125 new cases from the the country's total logged today. 

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur reported 801 cases and Johor with 752 cases. 

This is followed by Sarawak (594), Negri Sembilan (576), Kelantan (414), Perak (384), Kedah (373), Melaka (322), Penang (303), Sabah (203), Pahang (135), Terengganu (127), Labuan (62), Putrajaya (33) and Perlis (five).

The Health Ministry (MOH) recorded a total of 7,049 recoveries today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 508, 947.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were 103 new deaths registered, raising the country's death toll to 3,096.

As of today, there are a total of 880 patients receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 446 of these patients require respiratory assistance.
