JAKARTA: Indonesia has decided to extend micro-scale public activity restrictions that is known here through the acronym PPKM, by two more weeks starting today to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto said in a statement here today that offices located in the red zone only allowed to accommodate a maximum of 25 percent of employees, while the rest have to work from home.

The risk of COVID-19 transmission in different parts of the country were tagged with colours - red, orange, yellow and green - where red zone being of high risk, and the green zone being free of new cases.

In sub-districts categorized as red zones, the government has prescribed online classes for all schools and places of worship closed.

Meanwhile, shopping mall and restaurants will be required to close at 9pm and entry limited to 50 percent of their capacity with due adherence to health protocols.

Indonesia added 8,189 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, taking the total tally since the start of the pandemic in March, 2020 to 1,919,547, according to data posted on the official twitter page of the Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency @BNPB_Indonesia.

The number of people recovering from the virus increased by 6,143 to reach 1,751,234, while the death toll climbed by 237 to 53,116.
