Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) have busted the largest drug syndicate in the country so far this year in two raids, in Selangor and Kedah recently.

Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff the syndicate was busted after the a 38-year-old man in Subang Jaya, after finding 360 slabs of compressed ganja, weighing 355 kilogrammes, in his car on March 12.

Following the arrest, the next day, the police were led to a house in Bandar Laguna Merbok, Sungai Petani, where 884 slabs, believed to be ganja weighing 843 were found.

He said the seized ganja is estimated to be worth RM4.2 million.

“In total, we seized 1,200kg of ganja and that is the biggest ganja haul in our history,” he said in a press conference at Bukit Aman on Tuesday.

According to Mohd Mokhtar, the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Between Jan 1 and March 11, police have arrested 42,048 people related to drugs worth RM53.03 million.
