The body of Corporal Halim Ibrahim who was reported missing with his son in Sungai Kerian here was found about 500 metres from where he disappeared yesterday evening.

Halim, 52, was found at 5.40pm while the body of his son, Mohd Alif Hakim, aged one year and 10 months, was found at 12.30pm today.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said Halim, who was serving at the Batu Kawan police station near here, was found by a scuba team not far from where his son was found.

"Halim's body has been sent to Sungai Bakap Hospital for a post-mortem," he told reporters here today.

Halim and Mohd Alif Hakim were reported missing in the river when the boat they were in swerved causing Mohd Alif Hakim to fall into the river.

Also in the boat in the 6pm incident yesterday were Halim's wife, Waridah Muing, 33, a policewoman, and their daughter, Nor Amira, 5.

State police chief Terdahulu Ketua Polis Negeri, Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanaf said, Waridah had tried to save her son before Halim joined her. However, Waridah was saved when she held on to the boat while her husband and son were swept away.

The bodies of both father and son are expected to be laid to rest tonight at a cementery in Tanjung Berembang, here.
