Malaysians on Twitter are apparently excited about the latest rebranding of RIM to BlackBerry and the launch of their latest smartphones— the full touchscreen Z10 and the QWERTY-touch hydrid Q10.

“Blackberry” was the 6th most talked about subject in the country, with many asking when it would reach our shores and its final pricing.

Tech blogger, @Soya_Cincau, earlier wrote “#BlackBerry10 is trending number 6 in Malaysia and is in the top 10 trending list in the world. Been a while since BlackBerry trended”. It was learnt that BlackBerry Malaysia will make an announcment on February 20.

Lawyer Syehredzan Johan, @syahredzan, said: “Many people are excited about BB10. This means that the rakyat is opting for stability, reliability and the Blackberry messenger.”

Some welcomed the new phones from the flailing company with open arms, while some remained sceptical:

“@Fathimy30 after watching the launch..my heart when to blackberry 10..plizz come to malaysia early #Blackberry10 T_T”

“‏@PeteTeo i am liking the product. But it me or are the applause a little lukewarm in the room? Why? #BlackBerry10”

One @rahmahghazali twitted:”What's great about the new BlackBerry?? You can finally play Angry Bird!”

Popular twitter user, ‏@klubbkiddkl, had tweeted heavily on the new devices. He wrote: “BlackBerry 10 is a truly cutting-edge platform, capable of mobile-computing feats that Android and iOS can only dream of." Quoting @mashable”

Meanwhile, there were those who were quite amused by the announcement by the company's CEO Thorsten Heins that Alicia Keys will be the company’s new creative director.

‏@1Obefiend wrote: “alicia Keys is Blackberry new tech ambassador. This is just as pointless as Lady Gaga is ambassador for Polaroid”

Meanwhile, there were those pondering if the new devices will revive the brand and sweep away its competition, the Android phones and the Apple iPhone:

‏@ernamh said BlackBerry has potential to swipe Android users, seeing as their Android App Viewer makes porting over 'droid apps easier.

While @tonypua tweeted: “will find out in a couple of hours if there's still life in Blackberry with the launch of z10... Or whether it is time to say goodbye... *tears*”
