Malaysian Armed Forces have increased its surveillance along the country’s borders to avoid subversive elements especially the Islamic State or Daish militants from entering the country.

Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin said the members of the force will increase their patrolling and carry out random checks at the borders.

He said Inspector General of Police IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar’s statement yesterday that the Movida club bombing was Daish's work proved that the threat of terrorism is now a reality.

He said this is why the authorities must always be alert for any untoward incidents.

He said the public must also play its role, by becoming the eyes and ears of the authorities and report when there are suspicious individuals or activities in their areas.

"The police are the main agency that is responsible over terrorism and Daies or the IS but the Armed Forces will throw support behind the police," he said after handing over Hari Raya aid to Armed Forces members today.

"We can no longer take the treats lightly," he added.

Yesterday, Khalid confirmed that the bombing at a nightclub in Puchong last week was the work of Daish militants.

The June 28 explosion at Movida at IOI Boulevard, which injured eight people, was carried out by locals who were taking orders from Daish (IS) militant Muhamad Wanndy Mohamad Jedi from Syria.

He said initial investigations revealed that the suspects obtained the grenades used in the attack from a neighbouring country.

He noted that this was the first Daish terror attack in Malaysia.
