The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) is having high hopes that all civil servants will be given a bonus in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

It's president Datuk Omar Osman said eventhough he is not sure of the bonus amount, he is confident that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will announce a positive news to civil servants.

He said so when commenting on the rumours spreading in the social media about the bonus, which is said to be ‘approved’.

“I have not received any information on the bonus yet. No black and white. I also have no idea about the bonus amount. Whatever it is, let us wait for the Prime Minister’s announcement,” he told Astro Awani.

On July 17, Najib had said that the government will review the possibility of giving bonuses to civil servants for Hari Raya.

He said the government still has time to make a decision on the matter.

Before this, Cuepacs has urged the government to consider a half-month salary as an Aidilfitri bonus for the 1.4 million civil servants.

Omar said the bonus could come in handy due the anticipated higher expenditure to be incurred as many civil servants prepare for the Aidilfitri.

Meanwhile, many social media users were already circulating speculations on the bonus dates.
