Activists Adam Adli Abdul Halim Fariz Musa who were detained for participating in the 'Free Anwar' campaign in front of Sogo shopping complex yesterday, were released today.

Adam’s lawyer, New Sin Yew, told Astro AWANI that they were released from the Jinjang district police headquarters around 11.30am today.

New said the duo were released on police bail which requires them to report to the police stationed when summoned.

When asked of the possibility of the case being brought to the court, New said there are no grounds to charge them.

“They were arrested under Section 142/143 of the Penal Code, which needs the use of criminal force in order to be charged.

“There was no such thing during yesterday’s assembly. They only used their constitutional rights to assemble,’ he told Astro AWANI.

The 'Kita Lawan' rally which took place near the Sogo department store ended with the arrest of the activists at around 5.15pm.

The rally supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was held in solidarity for his release.

Among those gave speeches at the event included Anwar's daughter, Nurul Nuha.

Adam Adli who also spoke at the rally, urged young Malaysians to 'not be scared in their struggle'.

"We don't want to just free Anwar, but we want freedom of all Malaysians," he said.

Apart from Adam Adli, other student activists who were present at the rally were Fahmi Zainol and K.S. Bawani.

The Federal Court on February 10 dismissed Anwar's final appeal against his conviction and jail sentence for sodomising Mohd Saiful at Unit 11-5-1 Kondominium Desa Damansara, Jalan Setiakasih in Bukit Damansara, between 3.10 pm and 4.30 pm on June 26, 2008.

Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria, who led a five-member panel, delivered the judgement and upheld the five-year jail term imposed by the Court of Appeal on March 7, last year.
