PUTRAJAYA: The National Cancer Institute (NCI) which also serves as a COVID-19 vaccination centre (PPV) will see 991 of its frontline staff inoculated beginning Monday (March 1).

NCI director Dr Mohd Anis Haron @ Harun said the list of those eligible for the vaccine has been received, and thorough preparations are underway to ensure the vaccination process runs smoothly.

"The vaccination process will be done in the foyer space at NCI for the comfort of the recipients," he told Bernama after witnessing 54 employees from the Ministry of Health (MOH) who will be working at PPVs around Putrajaya here receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 shot today.

Commenting further, Dr Mohd Anis said 200 NCI staff were expected to be inoculated every day, with the vaccination process expected to be completed by Friday (March 5).

"The process of vaccinating the 991 recipients will take place from 8 am until 5 pm, so we expect to give 200 injections a day as we have eight vaccinators on duty," he said.

The National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme with the theme 'Protect Oneself, Protect Everyone' is being implemented in three phases, with Phase 1 from February to April 2021 involving about 500,000 frontliners.
