KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 571,802 frontline staff have registered to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the first phase of immunisation.

Coordinating Minister for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Program, Khairy Jamaluddin, explained that the number includes staff in the health and non-health sectors.

"57.3 per cent of the total are medical and health personnel while another 42.7 per cent are non-health members.

"It includes the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM); the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM); Rela, Prison officers; Customs; Health Department; as well as the Fire Department," he said in a press conference after the arrival of the first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine, on Sunday.

Earlier, Khairy informed that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will receive the first injection of the vaccine on February 24.

A total of 312,390 doses of COVID-19 vaccine landed safely at 10 am this morning at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) using MH604 aircraft with the Jalur Gemilang livery decoration.
