Kindergartens, including the ones under the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Unity as well as all preschools under the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) and the private sector are allowed to operate from July 1.

The authorization to operate involves about 24,410 such educational institutions registered nationwide.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision was made after the government had examined and agreed to the standard operating procedure (SOP) that was laid out in full.

“The number of kindergartens involved are preschool (6,212); private kindergartens (7,887); Kemas kindergartens (8,530); and Unity kindergartens (1,781).

“We have already received the SOP and have agreed to the SOP presented. Preschool and kindergartens are proposed to open on July 1, 2020.

"About the SOP, it covers the full extent before students' enrolment, as they study in classes and kindergartens, and as they return home, how they play in kindergartens and meal times," he said at a press conference here on Monday.

According to Ismail Sabri, details of the SOP will be tabled by the MOE in the near future.
