Mariah Carey has been tapped to become the headline act at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas after fellow musical diva and resident Celine Dion was forced to bow out due to her husband’s ailing health.

Carey made the announcement during an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" this week, revealing details on the venture that will see her perform all 18 of her number one hits in one show.

Last summer, Dion canceled her shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace so that she could be by her husband’s side during cancer treatments.

As the best-selling female artist of all time -- she’s sold more than 200 million copies worldwide -- Carey is perhaps one of the most suited to fill Dion’s shoes.

Carey said she’s also working on a new edition of Number One hits album which will be released later this year.

Shows start May 6 and tickets starts at $55 USD.

Carey may provide competition for Britney Spears, who also headlines The Axis at Planet Hollywood with her show “Piece of Me.”
