Electricity supply in Kelantan improved when Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) restored power at 464 substations after 1,960 were forced to be shut down when the state's flood situation worsened.

TNB Senior General Manager, Distribution Division (Region 2 Operations), Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid said in a statement today that as of now, 1,496 substations have yet to be switched on.

He said lost power supply was also reduced to 96 megawatts (MW), compared to the 146 MW before and the number of victims affected was 152,660 people.

"With improved access routes as of 8am today, 21 sets of mobile generators with capacities of up to 1,000 kilo Volt Ampere (kVA) were installed in Kelantan. We will also install them in several other locations where they are needed," he said.

The flood situation in the country was the worst experienced in the last five years, with the number of victims in affected states of Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak, Johor and Selangor reaching 225,731 this morning.

In Pahang, the number of substations which have to be fixed reduced to 331 from the 498 that were forced to be shutdown when floods were at the peak.

In Perak and Terengganu, electricity supply has almost returned to normal as only one substation remained inactive in Perak and five in Terengganu.

As of 8am today, 26,991 users in Pahang remained without power supply, Perak (2,725) and Terengganu (2,676), he added.
