Japanese men tend to fall in love with their wives all over again when they enter their 60s with 42% saying they would marry the same partner again if they had to choose, a survey has revealed.

The figure compared with 29% for men in their 50s, the lowest figure among all age brackets for married men, Japanese news agency Jiji Press reported according to the survey conducted by a group promoting better marital relations.

Men apparently realise how much they owe to their wives when they spend more time at home after retirement, said an official of the group comprising mainly fashion industry associations.

The proportion was 16% for women in their 60s -- lower than 22% for women in their 50s.

The survey conducted online in October also found that of all respondents, 33.5% said they would want to marry the same partner if they had to start again, while 20.6% said they would choose someone else.

By gender, 40.3% of men and 26.8% of women said they would choose the same partner. The proportion was higher for men than for women in all age brackets.

The survey also showed younger people are more content with their partners than older people, with 52% of men aged under 40 and 49% of women in the same age group saying they would marry the same person again if they had to choose.
