Zairil Khir Johari has been named as the new president of the Football Association of Penang (FAP).

The Bukit Bendera Member of Parliament replaces Datuk Nazir Ariff Munshi Ariff who quit in January.

The appointment of Zairil was announced in the FAP Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) at Penang Institute here, on Monday.

Zairil, who was team manager of the Panthers squad, told reporters that he hopes to develop Penang football as a whole.

When asked about the dissatisfaction of some Penang football supporters towards his appointment, Zairil said he could not please everyone.

"Football is like politics, I cannot make everybody happy. Our team is new but they have the potential to go further," he added.

Earlier, about 200 hard core Penang supporters held a protest outside Penang Institute to demand Zairil's head following three straight losses. - Bernama
