The Malaysian top doubles pair beat Japanese duo Takeshi Kamura-Keigo Sonoda, 21-14, 21-19 to clinch the men's doubles title in their debut at the tournament.

"V Shem-Wee Kiong are World Series champions in Dubai. Malaysians are proud of both of u. Congratulations and well-done," the prime minister said on Twitter.

The silver medallists in the Rio Olympics won a Super Series title for the first time at the Denmark Open in October.
