Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah expressed confidence that the national hockey squad can reach at least the semi-finals in the Champions Challenges 1 Trophy in Quilmes, Argentina.

He said the new national hockey coach Paul Revington was capable of guiding the squad as he had been given the Key Performance Indicator by the national hockey parent body, prior to this.

"Our target is to be in the four best teams, and the coach himself has given his views (to me) that he was confident about the team.

"I am confident about the target because the players selected are a combination of old and new," said Tengku Abdullah.

Malaysia, which was voted into Group A, will meet Poland in the curtain raiser tomorrow, Korea on Sunday and Canada on Tuesday.

Group B was headed by two-time champions and hosts Argentina with Ireland, Japan and South Africa.

For the record, the national hockey squad's best achievement at the championship was fourth place in 2001 when it was host.
