Rumours over the future of sprint king Khairul Hafiz Jantan has not distracted Melaka's preparation for the 2018 Perak Sukma (Malaysia Games).

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the state is focused on ensuring a good management to produce positive results in the biennial games.

"I had asked Khairul Hafiz about the rumours but he denied them," he told reporters after presenting appointment letters for a sports adoption scheme at Melaka State Sports Council, Krubong, here today.

A local newspaper reported that sprinters Khairul Hafiz and Badrul Hisham Manap had decided to quit Melaka and run for another state due to their dissatisfaction over the incentives received.

Meanwhile, Idris urged parties involved in the selection of athletes to practice integrity by being transparent and to prioritise athletes who do well and have the potential to win medals.

"Professionalism must be a priority and avoid favouritism as it will only be a loss to all parties," he added.
