World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei easily advanced to the second round of the Yonex Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2012 in Kowloon, Hong Kong yesterday.

In the first round, Chong Wei made short work of Thailand's Boonsak Ponsana 21-15 and 21-15 in 32 minutes.

Top seeded Chong Wei will face Ajay Jayaram of India in the next round. Ajay had defeated China's Wang Zhengming 22-20 and 23-21.

The other Malaysian singles who made it into the second round were Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif and Liew Daren together with all the other seeded singles players like Chen Long of China, Kenichi Tago of Japan and Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam.

In the men's doubles, Malaysia's Koo Kean Keat and Tan Boon Heong edged out the Thailand's Patiphat Chalardchaleam/Nipitphon Puangpuapech 21-15 and 21-17 to reach to the second round.

Koo and Tan are set to meet Chris Adcock/Andrew Ellis of England in the second round today.

Another Malaysian's men doubles Tan Wee Kiong/Hoon Thien How also advanced to the second round after disposing off Taiwan's Chen Hung Ling/Lu Chia Bin, 21-16, 17-21 and 21-19.

Tan and Hoon are scheduled to meet Indonesia's Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki/Hendra Aprida Gunawan in the next round.

In the mix doubles, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying beat China's pair of Jiaming Tao/Tang Jinhua 22-20 ,19-21 and 21-15 in 53 minutes.

They will take on Lunev Sergey/Dimova Evgenia of Russia in tommorow's second round.

In the women's doubles, Malaysia's Vivian Kah Mun/Woon Khe Wei also advanced into the second round after defeating Choi Hye In/Kim So Young of South Korea 21-19 and 21-18.

They are scheduled to face tough rivals from China's Wang Xiaoli/ Yu Yang in the next round.
