A man pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today on a charge of rioting during the first leg semi-final of the AFF Suzuki Cup between Malaysia and Vietnam at the Shah Alam Stadium last Dec 7.

Muhamad Izzat Mohd Khir, 25, who works as a sales assistant in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan, is charged under Section 147 of the penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment for two years or fine or both, if found guilty.

He and five others who had been charged, as well as several others still at large, were alleged to have created a fracas by attacking Vietnam supporters who were seated at Quadrant A area at the Shah Alam Stadium at 9.50pm on Dec 7.

Deputy public prosecutor Rustam Sanip, who prosecuted, requested bail at RM8,000 in one surety.

However, counsel Nik Mohamed Ikhwan Nik Mahamud, representing Muhamad Izzat, said his client's salary was low and that he was staying with his mother.

Magistrate Norshakinah Ahmad Kamarudin then set bail at RM2,800 with one surety and fixed Jan 22 for mention.

She also ordered Muhamad Izzat to report himself at the nearest police station every month.
