The newly set up Pakatan Harapan will go the way of the Pakatan Rakyat, said Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He said the Pakatan Harapan, which comprised PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara which was in the process of being registered, wanted to emulate the BN, a coalition of parties of various races. The new pact has Amanah replacing PAS.

PAS has been left out of the new pact after the party and DAP severed ties over the implementation of 'hudud' laws in Kelantan.

"There is no pakatan. They try to follow and copy BN. Like what they did before (Pakatan Rakyat). You see what happened today?

"With the new 'pakatan' (pact), they will 'bungkus' (fold up) too," he said when asked to comment on the setting up of Pakatan Harapan last Tuesday.

Earlier, Tengku Adnan, who is the federal territories minister, and his wife Datin Seri Anggeraini Sentiyaki attended an Aidiladha celebration at the Putrajaya Corporation depot here.

The sacrificial slaughter of more than 100 cows was held at the event, organised by the Putrajaya UMNO.

The meat was distributed to surau and nearby residents.

Tengku Adnan, who is also UMNO secretary-general, said the presence of Youth Academy chairman and UMNO member Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah at the launch of Pakatan Harapan had sparked a negative perception and tarnished the image of UMNO.

He said that though Saifuddin had attended the function in his personal capacity, it was improper to have done so.

"Today, we are faced with the problem of perception. We have to ensure that what we do does not cause confusion and problems for the party and government.

Therefore, we need to fight and correct the perception in the proper perspective.

“That’s the reason why I did not go to the red-shirt rally (on Sept 16) even though lots of people are upset with me. As the BN secretary-general, I have to be sensitive. I cannot attend an event that will tarnish the image of the party or bring negative perception and create confusion.

“Therefore, as a member of UMNO, you should know your ethics in UMNO. You should not do things that undermine the party,” he said.

Tengku Adnan said UMNO had issued a show-cause letter to Saifuddin, who is the former MP for Temerloh, and he had 14 days to respond.

Asked whether Saifuddin would be expelled from the party, Tengku Adnan said: "I do not know. The Disciplinary Board will decide on the next course of action."
