Kuala Kangsar division Wanita Umno has submitted two names for consideration to stand in the upcoming Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat by-election.

Perak Wanita Umno chief Datuk Rusnah Kassim said, both proposed names from the wing possessed the capability and leadership qualities, besides having the support of voters.

It is understood that one of the two holds a position in Kuala Kangsar Wanita Umno, while the other is an ordinary member.

"We leave it to the party's top leadership to make the choice and Perak Wanita Umno will support the candidate chosen to contest in the by-election."

She said this after attending the Townhall and Safe City programme held in conjunction with the Menteri Besar's Retreat in the Kerian district, here, today.

Rusnah who is also state Women and Family Development, Community Welfare, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman, said Perak Wanita Umno had already activated its election machinery to meet voters in the constituency.

The Kuala Kangsar by-election will be held following the death of its incumbent MP Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.

Also killed in the crash was Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Datuk Noriah Kasnon, who was the incumbent MP for Sungai Besar, Selangor.

Last Friday, the Election Commission announced that the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections would be held on June 18, and nomination of candidates was set for June 5.
