Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today proposed for the post of acting UMNO deputy president to be stated in the party constitution in order to clarify its job scope in the event of vacancy of the number two post.

According to the UMNO vice-president, at the moment, the post does not exist, unlike the post of acting Youth chief.

Therefore, Ahmad Zahid who is also deputy prime minister believes, it should be coordinated at the top leadership level.

"This has happened three times. I've said this during the time of Pak Lah (Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi), the Prime Minister himself and my time.

"(An acting) is only carrying out the duties (of deputy president). The matter is silent. So, it is difficult," he said after closing the Ummah Agenda Empowerment Convention (KPAU) 2.0 at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.

Currently, the post of UMNO deputy president is vacant following the party's decision to sack Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is now Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president, last June.

In respect of the proposal he made today, Ahmad Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that an Extraordinary General Assembly (EGM) be held prior to the Annual General Assembly.

"We'll take this to the management meeting and we will continue to get the approval of the Supreme Council so that there will be two sessions of the assembly.

"Hopefully the proposal from this convention will be the focus of the UMNO general assembly, while the EGM focuses on the amendment to the constitution," he said.
