Perak Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, has been appointed as the 13th Perak Menteri Besar under the administration of the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Comptroller of the Royal Household, Colonel (R) Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohamad Nor, said Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, has assented the appointment.

“In accordance with Article XVI, Clause 2 (a) of the Perak Darul Ridzuan Government Act, in the consideration of His Majesty, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, the Chenderiang State Assemblyman, has gained the confidence of most members of the State Assembly to be elected as the 13th Menteri Besar of Perak.

"The Sultan has set 3.30pm today for the swearing-in ceremony, which will be held at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar," he said in a statement today.

The Perak state government under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) had earlier dissolved after Ahmad Faizal resigned as the 12th Perak Menteri Besar on March 10.

A day earlier, the PN announced that it had a majority of 32 Perak State Assembly seats -- 25 Barisan Nasional (BN) seats, four from Bersatu and three from Pas -- to allow them to form the new state government.
