Election Commission (EC) expects not less than 70 percent turnout at the Pengkalan Kubor state assembly by-election on Thursday.

EC chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the expectation was based on the voting trends and the percentage of voter turnout in the previous by-election.

"We expect the early full results. We will do everything tomorrow is public holiday so we choose to get the result at 9pm," said Abdul Aziz at a press conference after reviewing the final preparations on polling centres at Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Waterford in Tumpat on Wednesday.

Commenting on the final preparations on the eve of polling day, Abdul Aziz said the ballot inspections are smooth sailing.

According to Abdul Aziz, a total of 11 of District Polling Centres which involve 45 polling channels will open for regular voting.

A total of 435 election workers have been enlisted to aide the voting.
