The Barisan Nasional (BN) continues to strive to win back the support of the Chinese community by encouraging its leaders to be closer to the people and understand their problems and needs, said BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

"I believe the Chinese community will be with the government again if we (leaders) are able to bring ourselves closer to the people, understand and feel the pulse of the people, as well as know what they want.

"For that, various efforts have been made by the government, among others, create programmes and opportunities for house ownership, business and others for the good of the people," said the Federal Territories Minister when met by reporters at the 'Kenduri 1Wilayah Persekutuan' (Kenduri 1WP) programme in Bukit Bintang here, Sunday.

Also present were Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz.

The programme, which is an initiative by the Federal Territories Ministry, to enhance closer relations among the local community, was attended by about 3,000 people.
