Puteri UMNO chief, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin today revealed that there had been several attempts by certain quarters to woo its members to join a new political party.

She disclosed that a former Puteri UMNO chief had claimed that she received the invitation to join the party and was guaranteed a spot for the upcoming General Election.

“The former Puteri chief revealed to me that she refused the offer and expressed her doubt as to why she was chosen,” said Mas Ermieyati.

“They may lack in headcounts. But there are so many others out there, why look for UMNO members?” she told reporters after the closing ceremony of the Puteri UMNO delegation conference in Paya Besar, here, Saturday.

Also present were Paya Besar UMNO chief, Datuk Abdul Manan Ismail; Puteri UMNO division chief, Faridah Mat Firu; and Pahang UMNO Youth chief, Mohd Shahar Abdullah.

Mas Ermieyati said she was worried that new Puteri UMNO members would be easily swayed and expressed hope that they would not fall into the trap.

“Puteri UMNO view this as a major challenge and we are redoubling efforts towards ensuring that no members are influenced. It is also a challenge to gauge the loyalty of party members and their stand towards the party,” she added.

She also cautioned Puteri UMNO leaders nationwide to report any efforts by the new political party to attract their members.

Mas Ermieyati also hoped that all Puteri UMNO members will be able to embrace the concept of loyalty, strong determination and faith that only UMNO will struggle for the rights of the Malays.

She also stressed the importance of winning the hearts and minds of young voters especially first-time voters to ensure the victory of Barisan Nasional and UMNO at the 14th General Election.

“The effort cannot be seasonal, it needs to be consistent. It is unfair to place the responsibility solely on Puteri UMNO as it is a collective effort,” she said.
