Security will be a priority for the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the Lahad Datu state assembly seat, Datuk Yusof Apdal, if he is chosen as the people’s representation.

He said this reflected the aspirations of the people in the area, who wanted assurance on security especially after the Sulu intrusion in February.

Yusof said that the formation of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) is able to give confidence to the residence in the coastal area of East Sabah.

“This is the most important because if security is no good it would be hard to lead here. If the people are not confident, the investors won’t come and all will be in chaos. This is most crucial: security,” said Yusof.

Aside from that, Yusof also promised to regularly go down to the ground if given the mandate by the Lahad Datu folk.

“I will try my best to work and take up the trust for the people in this area, in line with the hope of our leader Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to always be close to the rakyat. I will try to be a leader of the people where I will always be here to be with the people,” he said.

The Lahad Datu state seat will see a four-cornered fight between the BN, SAPP, PKR and STAR candidates.

Placed under the Silam parliamentary seat, Lahad Datu has 25,232 voters.
