A security personnel was injured in the right leg when hit by explosives when attending a "ceramah" or rally organised by Barisan Nasional (BN) held at the BN Nibong Tebal Command Centre on Tuesday night.

Penang deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said that the victim, in his 30s, was taken to the Sungai Bakap hospital for further treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

The police said that they will investigate the real cause of the incident which happened at 10.15pm last night and does not rule out the possibility that it could be an act of sabotage.

“We’ve instructed the Bom and Forensic unit to investigate the explosives used,” he said to the media at the location of the incident.

Abdul Rahim said reports from the investigation would be informed in detail at a press conference soon.
