Young women in the country must be given a bigger role in deciding the nation's direction and better future, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

Idris, who is also UMNO Supreme Council member, said this was because the group had its own strength and influence, among them to make successful an agenda or programme by the government or in the party.

"We have agreed that among our core business in UMNO is to make young women the party supporters who can contribute something or help mobilise the Puteri wing.

"Furthermore, I believe women have a higher determination to help realise all programmes or agenda which we have planned," he told reporters after launching the 2017 Melaka Young Women Fiesta DP Ops# here today.

Also present were Puteri UMNO vice-chief Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan and Melaka Puteri chief Azlieza Azizan.

Earlier, Idris received 800 membership forms from new Puteri members which was handed over by Azlieza.
